Greetings! I am Jamalee Desmond (a.k.a. Mrs. Desmond, Mrs. D, or even
Queen Desmond if I can get the kids to buy into it).
I am honored to be your child's teacher this year.
I hold a B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota in Developmental Child Psychology and a Post Bachalorette degree from the UofM in Elementary Education. I also have a Masters of Educational Leadership degree from Bethel University. I am in my 23rd year of teaching in the Mounds View School District. I've taught first grade, fourth grade, and the past 15 years have been in 5th grade. I truly love my job and can say that it is because of the kids. They have so many strengths and abundant energy, yet they still look for guidance and reassurance as they stretch and get ready for the next big leap. I am inspired everyday by the students and the Turtle Lake Community!
I grew up in Roseville, MN. and think fondly of my years of elementary school. My dad was a teacher as well. My love of learning, and the many amazing teachers in my life led me to this vocation that I so passionately love.
When I am not at TL teaching, I love to just be with my family which may be as simple as getting hair cuts, grocery shopping, walking the dog, or heading up north for some R&R. I have been married for 22 years to my husband Tim, and have the most wonderful seven year old son, Anthony. Anthony came to our family through adoption when he was 8 months old. We are blessed to have shared our journey with our Turtle Lake family, whose support and excitement made the wait bearable.
I love to travel and have been to many places within and outside of the United States. Guatemala, Paris, France, Rome, Italy, Iceland, and Victoria, Canada are some of my all time favorite locations. Glacier National Park is perhaps the most beautiful place I've been lucky enough to explore by car, on foot, and horseback. I play volleyball fall and winter, and softball spring and summer. I don't watch much t.v. I love to read, but have found that I end up reading more children's books than anything else; Go Figure.
May this year bring tremendous personal and academic growth for your child, as well as inspire future goals and lead to many great friendships and memories.
